Delaware Volleyball Dominates UNC Wilmington

athlete photoWILMINGTON, NC -- Outside hitters Colleen Walsh and Kelly Gibson combined for 27 kills and a .418 hitting percentage to lead the Delaware volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-17) win over UNC Wilmington Sunday afternoon at Hanover Hall.

For the Blue Hens, senior Heather Ranck (right) tallied a game-high 16 digs, while Megan Welch added a game-high 46 assists. Freshman Kelly Matthias and Michelle LaLonde continue making big impacts as they combinied for 15 kills and four blocks, while both hitting over .400.

With the win the Blue Hens improve to 18-8 overall and 9-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks dip to 8-22 on the season and 0-16 in the CAA.

Leading UNCW were seniors Dorinda Petrisko and Liz Mitchell. Mitchell posted a team-best nine kills and hit .231 while adding seven digs and three block assists, while Petrisko notched 14 digs, which led the team. Sophomore Megan Nash and freshman Paula McConnell each recorded seven kills and setter Jill Hoeck posted a team-high 29 assists in a losing effort.

The Hens will return to action Friday when they host William & Mary at 7 p.m. at Viera Court. A win or a Georgia State loss would clinch a spot in the CAA tournament for Delaware.
