BALTIMORE, MD: Junior Colleen Walsh (right) posted a game-high 19 kills and committed only three errors to lead the University of Delaware volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-22) victory over UMBC (3-2) Tuesday evening to improve the Hens record to 8-0, the best start in school history.
For the Blue Hens, junior Megan Welch recored a game-high 36 assists while senior Heather Ranck led the team defensively with 16 digs. Sophomore Kelly Gibson recorded nine kills to go along with 15 digs.
Sarah Fillmore had a team-high 10 kills for the Retrievers, while teammate Kira Giles posted 32 assists.
Delaware, which has won two tournaments this season (ASICS/Delaware Invitational & Wisconsin-Green Bay Tournament) has surpassed the 1976 team which started 7-0 to set the new UD record for best start in school history.
The Hens will look to continue its winning ways this Friday when they open CAA play against George Mason at Viera Court. Start time is 7 p.m.
