NEWARK, DE : The University of Delaware volleyball team fell behind 2-0 before winning three consecutive games to down Northeastern University 3-2 (26-30, 25-30, 30-27, 30-24, 15-9) in a Colonial Athletic Association match Saturday evening at Viera Court.
For the Blue Hens, Colleen Walsh posted a game-high 26 kills, her third highest total of the season, while Kelly Gibson added 22 kills and a game-high 24 digs. Junior Megan Welch (right) recorded a game-high 62 assists, her third highest total of the season and sixth 60-plus kill match of the year.
After falling behind two games to one and trailing 17-11 in the fourth game, Delaware went on an 8-1 run to get back into the match. The Hens took the fourth game 30-24, outscoring the Huskies 19-7 in the final 26 points. In the decisive fifth game the Hens trailed once again, 7-4, before winning seven straight points, caped off by a Kelly Gibson kill to take the 11-7 lead. On match point, Michelle LaLonde recorded one of the Hens’ six aces in the match to give the Hens the victory.
Delaware improves to 17-7 overall and 8-6 in the CAA, while Northeastern falls to 12-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
Ashley Reeves led Northeastern with 14 kills, while teammate Kira Batura posted a team-high 21 digs for the Huskies.
The Hens will return to action Friday when they travel to Georgia State for a 5 p.m. start time.
