Delaware Volleyball Falls From Unbeaten Ranks, Drop 3-0 Decision to Hofstra

athlete photoHEMPSTEAD, NY-- A perfect season for the University of Delaware volleyball team came to an end Thursday evening as host Hofstra knocked off the Blue Hens by a 3-0 score. Delaware lost for the first time this season to fall to 12-1 (3-1 Colonial Athletic Association.

Coming into tonight’s match the Hens were one of only 10 Division I teams left in the country without a loss. The 12 striaght victories to start the season easily surpassed the 1976 team that started 7-0 to set the shool record.

For Delaware, senior Heather Ranck (right) had 17 digs while Colleen Walsh posted a game-high 13 kills. Junior setter Megan Welch added a team-high 33 assists and Kelly Gibson recorded 11 kills to go along with nine digs.

Hofstra (8-5, 4-0 CAA) brought a balanced attack as five players contributed over nine kills and four were in double figures. Leading the way for the Pride was Lauren Engle who tallied 11 kills and added 14 digs.

The Hens will be back in action next Friday when they return home to continue CAA play against UNC-Wilmington. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Viera Court.
