Delaware Sweeps Seahawks on Halloween

Niecy Taylor led the Blue Hens with 10 kills after posting 17 in the team's first meeting.

NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Niecy Taylor had 10 kills and senior Liz Ommundsen had five and 12 digs as the University of Delaware blanked the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington, 3-0, in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday night at Viera Court.

The win snapped the Blue Hens' four-game losing skid and helped avenge a 3-2 loss in the team's first meeting back on October 4. Delaware's 10 wins also eclipses last season's total of nine.

Both junior Megan McGrath and freshman Claire McCormack both notched eight kills while junior Sarah Engle had seven and 28 assists. In addition, junior Taylor Govaars added 14 digs and freshman Jocelyn Greenwald had 11 assists.

The Seahawks (5-17, 1-9 CAA), who lost their seventh-straight match, were paced by Bea Gerevich's triple double as she posted 10 kills, 10 assists, and 11 digs. Felicity Ribalkin added seven kills and six digs for UNCW.

Delaware (10-13, 4-5 CAA) returns to action tomorrow when it hosts William & Mary at Viera Court at 7 p.m.
