Career Match as Blue Hens Notch First Win of
2003
ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Juniors Valerie Murphy
(Round Hill, VA) and Sarah Engle (Yorba Linda,
CA) each posted 12 kills and senior Liz Ommundsen
(Northport, NY) added 10 as the University of Delaware
volleyball team picked up its first win of 2003, downing
Alcorn State, 3-0, at the Comcast Lobo Invitational at the
University of New Mexico.
Delaware (1-3) won game one, 30-25, game two, 30-17, and
game three, 30-28.
The win marked the 350th in the illustrious coaching
career of second-year Delaware Head Coach Bonnie Kenny. For
her career, Kenny is 350-248.
Freshman Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ)
established a career-high with 24 assists for the Blue Hens,
while senior Allison Hunter (Sandy, UT) continued her
climb up the UD all-time assist list, racking up 20. She now
has 2,668, good for third place all-time at Delaware. In
addition, sophomores Niecy Taylor, a native of
Albuquerque and graduate of nearby Cibola High School, and
Jennifer Daniels (Lakewood, CA) each posted seven
kills.
Donika Sutton led Alcorn State with seven kills, while
Tosin Fadeyi registered six and Moriah Robertson had four.
Brittany Ward chipped in with 22 assists.
The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow, when they will
take on Youngstown State at 10 a.m. before closing out the
Invitational against the host Lobos at 7:30 p.m.
