Hens Drop Third-Straight Conference Match

Niecy Taylor led the Blue Hens with 19 kills.

NEWARK, DE -- Tessa Sphar posted 15 kills and Elizabeth Curley added 10 as Hofstra University rallied from a two games to one deficit to down the University of Delaware, 3-2, in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Saturday night at Viera Court.

After taking game one, 30-18, the Pride (9-13, 5-3 CAA) dropped games two and three, 30-20 and 30-24, respectively. They proceeded to win game four, 30-24, and the decisive game five, 15-11.

Alessandra Pollo had nine kills, eight digs and six blocks for Hofstra while Nicole Smith posted seven kills and eight blocks.

Sophomore Niecy Taylor led the Blue Hens (9-12, 3-5 CAA) with 19 kills while senior Liz Ommundsen added 18 and junior Sarah Engle added 15 and 35 assists in the loss. In addition, junior Taylor Govaars added 22 digs and freshman Jocelyn Greenwald registered 27 assists.

Delaware, which lost its third straight match following a three-match win streak, has now dropped its last 11 games to Hofstra and fell to 7-35 lifetime against the Pride.

The Blue Hens return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Vllanova Wildcats at 7 p.m.
