September 25, 2003 Hens Fall to Pride in CAA Opener HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Alessandra Pollo
led four Pride players in double figures in kills with 15 as
Hofstra University downed the University of Delaware
volleyball team, 3-1, Thursday night in the Colonial
Athletic Association opener for both
teams. Taylor Govaars
registered a career-high 40 digs for the
Hens Junior Valerie Murphy led the Blue Hens (4-7, 0-1 CAA) in kills with 18, while sophomore Niecy Taylor posted 15 and freshman Claire McCormack added 13. In addition, junior Taylor Govaars registered a career-high 40 digs, while McCormack added 29 and junior Liz Ommundsen had 21. Senior Allison Hunter had 60 assists in the contest. The Pride (5-10, 1-0 CAA), meanwhile, received 13 kills from Tessa Sphar, while Beth Arnette added 45 assists and 21 digs. Delaware, which had not played in nine days since a 3-2 win over Temple, returns to action Saturday night as it begins its home portion of the schedule with a match against LaSalle. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
