October 25, 2002 Blue Hens Win For Fifth Time in Six Games
NEWARK, DE -- Junior Liz Ommundsen (Northport, NY) posted her fourth 'double-double' in her last five games and led five Blue Hens in doubles figures in kills with 20 as the University of Delaware volleyball team defeated Virginia Commonwealth in a Colonial Athletic Association match Friday evening, 3-1. The Blue Hens rebounded after dropping game one (30-24) to win games two (30-28), three (30-16) and four (30-26). Sophomore Valerie Murphy (Round Hill, VA) posted 17 kills and six digs for the Blue Hens (8-13, 5-6 CAA), who won for the fifth time in sixth games and have gone 8-5 since starting the season 0-8. Freshman Niecy Taylor (Albuquerque, NM) notched 15 kills for Delaware, while fellow freshman Jennifer Daniels (Lakewood, CA) registered 12. Sophomore Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA) added 20 digs for Delaware. VCU was paced by Laura Heffner with 15 kills and Juanita Mitchell with 13. The Blue Hens return to action tomorrow evening when they play host to CAA-rival William & Mary at Viera Court at Carpenter Sports Building. Match time is set for 7 p.m. AGATE:
