The Delaware volleyball team opened its 1998 season with a pair of losses to Rutgers and Brigham Young in the Massachusetts Invitational. In the opening match, Delaware faced Rutgers, who swept the Blue Hens 15-7, 15-7, 15-4. Sophomore Jennifer Wanner led the team with nine kills, four digs, and three blocks. Sadie Bjornstad had 24 assists for the Blue Hens. In the afternoon match against eighth ranked Brigham Young, the Blue Hens did not fare much better falling to the Cougars 15-2, 15-8, 15-2. Wanner again led the way for the Blue Hens with four kills, seven digs, and one block. Kristen Merrill also had four kills and seven digs.
