The University of Delaware volleyball
team fell in the openingmatch of the Liberty
Invitational to Campbell University 15-9, 15-9,
15-12. The Blue Hens, who dropped to 3-7 on the
season, were led by Kristen Merrill with
seven kills and six digs. Carlyn Cangiano
had a team high eight digs. Jennifer Wanner
also had seven kills for the match and had a team
high hitting percentage of .188. Sadie
Bjornstad and Nicole O'Malia shared the
setting duties. Bjornstad had 14 assists over the
course of two games while O'Malia had ten assists
in the other game. Campbell University (9-2) was
led by Tinsely Gordon, who had ten kills and three
digs. Abby Jenkins and Leah Kettering had a
team-high six digs. The Blue Hens return to action
tomorrow (Saturday) morning when they face North
Carolina State at 9 a.m.

The University of Delaware volleyball
team fell twice Saturday at the Liberty
Invitational. The Hens, who fell to 3-9 for the
season, opened Saturday's play with a 3-1 loss to
North Carolina State. North Carolina State won the
first sets 15-7 and 16-14. Delaware rallied to win
the third set 15-7 but lost the fourth 15-6.
Kristen Merrill led the Blue Hens with a
double-double in kills and digs. She had 10 kills
and 12 digs for the match. JenniferWanner
led the Hens with 12 kills. The Wolfpack (9-2) were
led by Laura Kimbrell who had 28 kills and 15 digs.
The Blue Hens played Liberty in the afternoon match
and lost a difficult five set match which took 2
hours and 20 minutes to play. The Hens opened with
18-16 first set victory. Liberty (5-5) took the
second set 15-7. Delaware won the third set again a
tie-breaker 18-16. Liberty rallied to win the
fourth set 15-8 and won the fifth set 18-16.
Merrill and Wanner both had double-double for the
Blue Hens. Merrill had 14 kills and 22 team-high
digs. Wanner, who was named to the all-tournament
team, led the Hens with 20 kills. Breigh
Hickman and Carlyn Cangiano also had
double digit kills for the Hens. Sadie Bjornstad
had 65 assists for Delaware. Liberty was led by
Kyrie Dorn who had 23 kills, 11 digs, and 11
blocks. Delaware returns to action on Wednesday
when they open up the home season against Villanova
at Carpenter Sports Building at 7 p.m.
