A former standout player and assistant coach
at the University of New Hampshire, Stacy Barnett begins her third season
with the Delaware volleyball staff as a graduate assistant in 2005.
Barnett, 26, a native of Crystal Lake, IL,
is working towards her master's degree in education from Delaware while
assisting with the team.
A former standout at Crystal Lake (IL) High
School, Barnett moved on to the University of New Hampshire where she
was a four-year standout at setter and competed against Delaware several
times. She led the Wildcats to four straight 20-win seasons and was part
of the 1998 squad that posted a 24-11 records, captured the America East
title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Jill Hirschinger.
She also helped UNH post records of 23-10 in 1997, 24-12 in 1999, and
23-11 in 2000.
One of the top setters in New Hampshire history,
Barnett earned first team All-America East honors as a sophomore in 1998
and again as a senior in 2000 when she led the league with a school record
1,350 assists (12.05 per game). She also earned second team All-America
East honors as a junior in 1999.
A 2001 graduate of New Hampshire with a degree
in communications, Barnett was the first setter in UNH history to record
3,000 assists and ended her career as the school's all-time leader in
the category with 3,977.
She began her coaching career at her alma
mater last fall when she served as an assistant under Hirschinger and
helped lead the Wildcats to a record of 23-11, the America East title,
and another berth in the NCAA Tournament.
