Delaware 14 St. Francis (PA) 0 Pitching Leads Delaware Softball to Sweep of St. Francis The University of Delaware softball team improved to 14-6, the best start since the 1994 season, with a doubleheader sweep of St. Francis 2-0 and 14-0 on Sunday at the Delaware Softball Diamond. Nicole Zanzoth in the first start of her Delaware career pitched a one-hitter as Delaware defeated St. Francis in the first game ofthe doubleheader 2-0. The Hens got the all the offense they needed in the second inning. Rikki Greenstreet started the inning reaching on an error and was brought home by a Robin Zielinski double. Mandy Welsh followed the double up with a rbi single to bring Zielinski home. Zanzoth had her no-hitter broken up by Amy Yob with two outs in the top of the seventh. Zanzoth struck out four and walked five for the victory. Delaware ended the second game after five innings with a 14-0 victory. The Hens led the game off with four runs in the first. Chris Brady started the scoring when she scored off a Lauren Mark triple. Mark was thrown at home on a steal attempt. The next two batters reached base and everybody scored when Kelly Dowell doubled and scored herself on an error by the third baseman. The Hens added three runs in the second. Brady tripled home Mandy Welch and Mark singled home Brady. Mark scored when she stole home. Delaware put up six more runs in third inning. Chris Brady brought home three runs on her second triple of the game. In the doubleheader, Brady went 4-6 with two triples and four rbis. The Hens made the score 14-0 in the fourth when Erin Kelly scored Beth Baugher on an rbi single. Krysta Pidstawski pitched her seven complete game of the year with seven strikeouts and three walks while only allowing three hits. Delaware returns to action on Wednesday when the Hens travel to Lehigh University for a doubleheader that starts at 2:30 p.m.
