Delaware Softball Splits Doubleheader
with Villanova
The University of Delaware softball team improved to
10-6 on the season with a doubleheader split Thursday at
Villanova (16-5-2). The Hens fell to the Wildcats 2-1 in
the opener but came back to win the second game 6-3.
Villanova jumped on the board first with a run in the
second inning. The Hens rallied back to tie the game when
Lauren Mark brought home Carolyn Wasilewski, who reached on
a double. Villanova scored the final run of the game on a
Megan O'Leary homerun. Kristi O'Connell picked up the loss
for the Hens to fall to 5-3 on the season. Carrie Walpole
got the win for Villanova.
Delaware started the scoring early in the second game.
Amanda Cariello drove home Laurie Brosnahan in the first
inning to make the score 1-0. Delaware added five in the
second inning. Christy Wilkins scored the first run of the
inning off an error by the shortstop. Brosanhan hit a grand
slam, the first of the season for the Hens, to make the
score 6-0. Krysta Pidstawski held Villanova scoreless for
six innings. The Wildcats scored three in the seventh to
make the final score 6-3.
Delaware softball returns to action on Saturday when the
Hens travel to the University of Pennsylvania to face the
Quakers at 1 p.m.
