Delaware Extends Home
Winning Streak to Eight with Sweep of
LaSalle
The University of Delaware softball team
(19-7) extended its home winning streak to eight games with
a doubleheader sweep of LaSalle (10-16) today (Tuesday).
The Hens won the first game 9-0 which improved their record
to 18-7 which is the best 25-game start in UD history. The
Blue Hens won the second game 7-1.
Delaware continued its trend of jumping
the opponent early by scoring two runs in the first inning
of game one. Amanda Cariello brought home Mandy Welch when
Cariello reached on an error. Chris Brady scored later in
the inning on a passed ball.
The Hens added five runs in the third
inning. Laurie Brosnahan scored a passed ball. Carolyn
Wasliewski brought home two Hens on a single. Welsh
brought home two more on a double. Delaware finished the
scoring when Rikki Greenstreet doubled in Brosnahan and
Michelle Stack singled home Greenstreet. Kristi O'Connell
pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight.
LaSalle scored its lone run of the
doubleheader in the first inning of game two when Winter
Eastmond singled home Missy Rorke, who reached on a double.
The Explorers lead did not last long as the Hens added two
in the bottom half of the first.
Delaware made the score 4-1 in the third
when Christy Wilkins singled home Laurie Brosnahan. Lauren
Mark, who reached on fielder's choice, scored on a Robin
Zielinski single. The score became 5-1 in the fourth when
Mandy Welsh scored on a passed ball. Erin Kelly made the
score 7-1 on a two rbi triple. Krysta Pidstawski got the
victory to improve to 8-4 on the season.
Delaware, who is undefeated at home this
season, opens America East play on Saturday when the Hens
play host to Boston University in a doubleheader which
starts at 12 noon.
