Delaware Softball Records School Record 28th Victory

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware softball team recorded its 28th victory today at the Delaware Diamond and set the new school record for victories in a season. The old record was 27 wins set by last year's squad. The Hens split the doubleheader, losing game one 4-2 and winning game two 2-1, against George Mason and fell to 28-10. George Mason moved to 16-31 on the season.

In game one, each team scored in the first inning. George Mason's Dee Dee Fox led off with a triple and was driven home later in the inning. Delaware got its early offense from Lauren Mark who singled home Chris Brady. George Mason got three unearned runs with two outs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. The Blue Hens added one more run in the sixth when Erin Kelly reached on an error by the third baseman and Laurie Brosnahan scored off the error. Delaware could generate no more offense and fell to the Patriots 4- 2. Kristi O'Connell took the loss for the Hens and pitched only four innings, her shortest outing of the season. George Mason's JoAnna Sanders took the victory.

All the offense came late in game two and started when Delaware opened the scoring in the sixth inning. Delaware used three consecutive singles by Mark, Amanda Cariello, and Christy Wilkins. Mark came home off of Wilkins' single. George Mason answered with a run in the seventh. Delaware's rally in the seventh started when Kerri Snyder was hit by pitch. Snyder was then pinch run for by Carolyn Wasilewski who advanced to second on a passed ball. Mandy Welch flew out to left for the second out of the inning. Chris Brady ended the game on a double which scored Wasilewski. Krysta Pidstawski picked up the victory. The win was the 42nd of her career which set a new UD record for career wins breaking the old record held by Kathy Tucci who had 41 from 1987 to 1990. George Mason's Lisa Davis got the loss.

Delaware returns to action on Thursday when the Hens travel to face Rider University in a doubleheader which starts at 2:30.
