Former University of Delaware softball standout Lisa
Myers was hired as a full-time assistant coach for the Blue Hen
softball team June 13, 2002. She begins the fourth season of her second
stint with the UD coaching staff in 2006 and her fifth season overall.
Myers, 32, most recently served as an education
coordinator with the New Castle (DE) Police Athletic League.
"We are extremely thrilled to have Lisa re-joining
our staff in a full-time capacity," said head coach B.J. Ferguson in announcing
the hiring. "She was an exceptional player and record holder here at UD
and she possesses a great deal of knowledge and a passion for the game.
Lisa will be heavily involved in the recruiting process along with teaching
and coaching all aspects of the game."
This is Myers' second coaching stint at UD
under Ferguson. She served as a part-time assistant for the Blue Hens
during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. The 1997 squad posted a 22-19 record
and placed second in the America East standings with a 9-4 record. Ferguson
was named America East Coach of the Year that season.
A two-year captain for the Blue Hens, Myers
was a standout outfielder and shortstop and a four-year starter from 1992-95,
leading the Blue Hens to a second place finish in the America East conference
in 1993. She earned second team All-America East honors in 1993, 1994,
and 1995 and earned All-Mid Atlantic Region honors as a senior in 1995
at shortstop. She was a Dean's List student at Delaware and was a member
of the 1995 America East Academic Honor Roll for student-athletes.
She ranks among the top 10 in virtually every
career statistical category in Delaware history and ended her career ranked
first in doubles (28), games played (155), at bats (496), hits (164),
and total bases (211), second in stolen bases (38), and fourth in batting
average (.330).
She started all 155 games during her career.
She batted .308 as a freshman, .293 as a sophomore, .303 as a junior,
and .395 as a senior when she set a school records with 62 hits and 30
runs scored while also collecting 10 doubles and 22 stolen bases.
Myers, who earned her degree in physical education
studies with a minor in mathematics from the University of Delaware in
1996, previously was employed as a distance learning instructor at Glasgow
High School in Newark, DE and as a senior operations manager and program
manager with Junior Achievement of Delaware, Inc.
She had been employed with PAL since December,
2000 where she has supervised after-school programs for 8-18 year olds,
managed wellness programs, coordinated life skills activities, and served
as a mentor and instructor.
A native of Broomall, PA where she was an
all-county selection at Marple-Newtown High School, Myers resides in Wilmington.
