Delaware, Towson split softball twinbill April 16, 2000 Dugan Becomes Hens' Second 15-game Winner NEWARK, DE &endash; Susan Dugan's five-hitter in the nightcap raised her mark to 15-2 this season and gave Delaware a split in its doubleheader with Towson Sunday afternoon, winning Game 2, 3-1, after losing the opener, 4-3.   Delaware junior Susan Dugan Dugan struck out five and walked one in earning her 15th win of the season and become only the second Blue Hen to win 15games in a season. The junior from Rising Sun (MD) HS and native of Newark, DE joins current teammate Kristi O'Connell as the only 15 game-winners for Delaware. O'Connell won 17 games last year. Delaware (26-9, 11-3 America East) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning before it even recorded its first hit, taking advantage of four consecutive walks and an RBI fielders' choice by freshman Jen Nicolais. Towson (21-22, 5-9) closed to within 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI triple by Marisa Moore. However, Delaware got an insurance run in the sixth on a RBI pinch-single by Amanda Cariello and Dugan pitched out of trouble in the seventh when she struck out pinch-hitter Fran Early and coaxed Brooke Clyde into lining out to left with runners at second and third. In the opener, Towson took advantage of four Blue Hen errors and rallied from an early 2-0 deficit. The Tigers broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth when Kara Kitchen was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Pinch-runner Michelle Cappe moved to second on a botched pickoff attempt. Then, Delaware pitcher Kristi O'Connell bobbled a two-hopper and then threw the ball into right field, which allowed Cappe to score from second. The opening game loss was Delaware's first at home in 15 games this season and snapped a school-record 14-game home winning streak.
