Dugan wins 11th straight in nightcap;
O'Connell extends shutout string in opener
as Basilio's triple wins it in seventh

NEWARK, DE -- Melissa Basilio went 4-for-6 on the day and Susan Dugan and Kristi O'Connell continued their strong pitching as Delaware completed a four-game series sweep of Drexel Sunday, winning 1-0 and 2-1 in softball action at Delaware Field.

The Blue Hens, who have now won 11 straight, are a perfect 14-0 at home this season. Their 20-5 start is the best in the program's 25-year history and marks the eighth time Delaware has won 20 games in a season.

In the opener, O'Connell extended her school-record scoreless streak to 39 consecutive innings, which also pushed her past the UD mark for innings pitched without allowing an earned run. In raising her record to 9-4 with the one-hitter, O'Connell struck out six and walked one.

Basilio, a freshman from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, playing in front of her family for the first time this season, ripped a two-out triple over the head of right fielder Kristy Heyser in the bottom of the seventh to score Mandy Welch with the game-winner.

In the nightcap, Dugan won her school-record 11th straight decision and raised her record to 11-1 on the year. The junior from Rising Sun (MD) HS, struck out six and walked none in firing a three-hitter.

After Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the fifth RBI singles by Basilio and Lauren Mark, Drexel scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth on a suicide squeeze bunt by Alicia Good. However, the Dragons (6-11) had the tying run thrown out at the plate later in the inning on a strong throw by second baseman Jen Nicolais.

Delaware travels to LaSalle Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
