Hens Sweep Terriers May 6, 2000 Mark Drives in Three of Hens' Four Runs   Lauren Mark 3 RBI in doubleheader NEWARK, DE -- Kristi O'Connell struck out eight in the opener and Susan Dugan won her 19th game of the season in the nightcap, while Lauren Mark drove in three of the Blue Hens' four runs as Delaware swept a softball doubleheader from Boston University by identical 2-1 scores. The sweep was the first by Delaware over Boston University. The Blue Hens have now won five of the last seven meetings after Boston University had won the first 12. O'Connell fired a three-hitter in raising her record to 15-9 on the season. After the senior from Elmford, NY surrendered a first-inning run, she settled down and retired 10 in a row at one point. Delaware got an RBI double in the first and an RBI ground out in the third from Mark to account for both Blue Hen runs. In the nightcap, it looked as though a third-inning RBI single by Mark would hold up as Delaware entered the seventh with a 1-0 lead. However, with two outs, Amy Parker lined an 0-2 pitch to left center to score Kerry Herr, who had singled to start the inning. On the hit, Robyn Horrick moved up to third. Dugan, however, coaxed Kenya Palmer into grounding out to end the threat. The Blue Hens, however, won it in their half of the seventh. After pinch-hitter Jen Nicolais popped out, Terrier pitcher Mary Colleran hit Carolyn Wasilewski with the first pitch. After Mandy Welch lined out to left, Krissy Chrisztopulosz beat out a chopper to short to put runners on first and second.Christine Brady followed with a hard ground ball that rolled up the arm of shortstop Kristin Knesek and kicked away. Wasilewski raced home from second on the play with the game-winner. Delaware is now 34-11 overall and 17-5 in America East, while Boston University is 32-16, 18-6 in America East. The Blue Hens could catch the Terriers and take the No. 2 seed for the America East tournament by winning one of two games in Sunday's doubleheader, which is slated for 11 a.m. Boston University, meanwhile, needs to win both games and Hofstra lose both against Hartford on Sunday in order to capture the regular season title. Hofstra will be the regular season champions and the No. 1 seed with at least a split versus the Hawks.
