America East Softball Tournament May 11, 2000 O'Connell Fires No-Hitter as Hens Advance   Kristi O'Connell HEMPSTEAD, NY - Kristi O'Connell tossed her third no-hitter of the season and the first by a Blue Hen in the postseason as Delaware advanced in the America East Softball Tournament with a 5-0 win over Boston University at Hofstra Softball Stadium. Second-seeded Delaware (36-12) will take on top-seeded Hofstra at 11 a.m. Friday. Hofstra (39-18) held off fourth-seeded Towson, 2-1, in the first game of the day. The Dutch survived a Towson two-on, one-out threat in the seventh to advance. Reliever Alicia Smith recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the Tiger threat. Boston University (33-18) will face Towson (31-29) at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday. The loser of the Hofstra-Delaware game will play the winner of the Boston University-Towson game at 4 p.m. Friday. Saturday's championship is slated for 12 noon. The Blue Hens struck for all five runs in the third when they batted around. Carolyn Wasilewski led things off with a single to left. Mandy Welch followed by trying to bunt Wasilewski over, but the Terriers botched the play to put runners at first and second. Krissy Christopulosz bunted the runners over to place runners at second and third for Christine Brady. Brady then hit a sinking liner to center that bounced away from Boston University's Nili Schnairsohn, scoring two runs. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Erin Kelly reached on an error, scoring Brady. Kerri Snyder followed with an RBI groundout and another run scored when Melissa Basilio singled off of pitcher Robyn Horrick's glove. O'Connell, meanwhile, struck out 10 and walked one in her sixth career no-hit effort. The senior from Elmsford, NY raised her record to 16-10 this season in earning her UD record 58th career win. She retired the last nine batters she faced, six of those by strikeout.
