NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware softball head coach B.J. Ferguson has announced the signing of four recruits who will attend the University and begin competing for the Blue Hens during the 2009 season.

Incoming freshmen Rachel Jones, Missy Rambow, Amanda Stacevicz, and Abbie Surosky comprise the Class of 2012 and will begin attending Delaware in the fall.

Jones, an outfielder from Endicott, NY (Union Endicott High School), was an all-conference and all-region selection in 2007 when she led the team with 27 runs, 33 hits, 26 runs batted in, four triples and a .402 batting average. Jones, a 2007 Scholar Athlete who was named a WBNG Academic All-Star, led Union Endicott to a 17-9 record and to the Southern Tier Athletic Conference Championship. Jones also led her summer league team, the New York Bad Apples, to the Eastern ASA National Championship.

“We are extremely pleased to have Rachel as part of our Class of 2012!” said Ferguson. “She is a solid outfielder with unlimited potential, and will add depth to our lineup on both sides of the plate.”

Rambow, a pitcher and first baseman from Tucson, AZ (Catalina Foothills High School), ranked among the top 10 in southern Arizona with a 1.61 earned run average and a 12-2-1 record last year. An AIA Scholar Athlete and an All-Southern Arizona All-Star, Rambow led Catalina Foothills to a 23-10 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the Kino Region. She also led the team to the Badger Invitational Championship, the Kino Region Tournament Championship, and the first round of the state playoffs.

“We are looking forward to having Missy as part of our pitching staff next season,” Ferguson stated. “She will bring talent and experience that will enhance depth in the circle. Her poise will take her that far.”

Stacevicz, a pitcher and third baseman from Cedar Grove, NJ (Mount St. Dominic Academy), was named the Essex Player of the Year last season when she was a first team all-state, all-county, and all-league selection. She also earned second team NFCA All-Region honors after leading Mount St. Dominic Academy to a 27-5 record, a No. 1 ranking in Essex County, a No. 12 ranking in New Jersey, and the Non-Public “A” State Championship. Stacevicz recorded 51 hits in 90 at bats to post a .543 batting average in 2007 while also adding 22 runs scored and 15 runs batted in. She compiled a 22-5 record in the circle, striking out 278 batters while walking just 16 in 181 innings of work.

“Amanda is not only a strong pitcher and third baseman, but is a solid hitter with the ability to go deep,” Ferguson said. “Her hard work and determination will give her the opportunity to work her way into the starting lineup.”

Surosky, an outfielder and catcher from Elmira, NY (Horseheads High School), earned The Wayne Coburn Award last season when she lead Horseheads to an 18-7 record and to the STAC finals. Surosky led her summer league team, the Conklin Raiders, to a 43-8 mark and to the 18A New York State Championship.

“Abbie is a quick player and will challenge defenses from the time she steps into the box,” Ferguson stated. “Her speed will enhance our outfield play in an effort to take away extra base hits. We look forward to having her as a member of our squad along with former summer teammate Anne Marie Pagano.”
