RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman third baseman Mary Ann Magee was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Wednesday.
Magee, a native of Carney’s Point, NJ (Penns Grove), led the Blue Hens with a .467 batting avearge, seven hits and five RBI in the five games at the East Carolina Pirate Clash last weekend.
Magee went 4 for 4 with a double and four runs batted in during her collegiate debut, a 6-3 win over Binghamton on Friday. She had a two-run single in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give Delaware the lead for good, and drove home two more runs with a single in the fifth. Magee added a hit against East Carolina on Friday and Fordham on Saturday, and was 1 for 4 with an RBI single in Sunday’s 6-5 loss to the Rams.
Georgia State’s Nichole Griffin was named the CAA Player of the Week, while her teammate Madi Gore earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Blue Hens return to action this Friday through Sunday when Delaware plays in the Dixie Classic in Norfolk, VA.
