LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL -- University of Delaware softball centerfielder Katie Lee (at right) will take part in the 11th annual NCAA Leadership Conference this weekend at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
Lee, a junior marketing major from Manassas, VA, will be one of 331 student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions who have been selected as current or future leaders on their campuses.The conference is a forum in which student-athletes have an opportunity to enhance their leadership and decision-making skills and discuss key issues in intercollegiate athletics.
The conference, which will take place from May 27-31, consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members of society. During the conference, student-athletes will discuss a variety of topics such as sportsmanship, substance abuse, social networking sites, hazing, recruiting climate, professional development and integrating student-athletes into campus. They will also discuss division-specific issues, create dialogue surrounding possible solutions to division-specific issues and discuss potential career direction.
Lee appeared in all 45 games while starting 44 in centerfield for the Blue Hens this season, ranking third on the team with a .294 batting average and tied for second with 35 hits. She also ranked second on the team with nine stolen bases and 15 walks, and was tied for third with 21 runs scored. Lee had five two-hit games on the season, including two hits in each of the final three games of the season at Georgia State.
Lee hit her only home run of the season at Drexel on March 24, and recorded triples against Lehigh and Villanova. She is tied for third in school history with 32 career stolen bases, 11th with 73 runs scored, tied for 11th with four home runs, and 20th with 106 hits.
Lee is the third Blue Hen softball player to attend the leadership conference this decade, joining Melissa Basilio in 2002 and Kelley Pastic in 2005.
