RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman pitcher and first baseman Michelle Kenney (at right) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Kenney, a native of Malvern, PA (Great Valley), led the Blue Hens with a 1.11 earned run average while recording a win and a save in Delaware’s three-game sweep of UNC Wilmington on Friday and Saturday.
Kenney allowed one hit in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory in Friday’s 4-2 triumph over the Seahawks, and recorded her first career save after giving up two hits in three innings of scoreless relief in the 5-2 win on Friday. Kenney then allowed one earned run on four hits in Saturday’s 9-8 win over UNC Wilmington.
Kenney, who is now 2-2 with a 1.18 earned run average in nine appearances in the circle this season, also had a good series at the plate for the Blue Hens. She went 1 for 3 with an RBI double to tie the game in the sixth inning of Friday’s first game, and was 2 for 3 with a two-run single in the first inning of Saturday’s victory. Kenney, who batted .300 on the week, is now hitting .260 on the season with a team-high three home runs.
Ashley Lane of Hofstra was named the CAA Player of the Week, while Courtney Simons of James Madison earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
The Blue Hens host Rider in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday and host James Madison in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
