RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware sophomore second baseman Allison Borchers (Fallston, MD/Fallston) -at right- was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The honor was the second of the season for Borchers, who was also named the league’s Player of the Week on March 15. She batted .526 in the Blue Hens’ five games last week, finishing with a team-high 10 hits while scoring four runs and driving in five.
Borchers went 2 for 3 with a two-run triple in the first game of last Wednesday’s doubleheader with Lehigh, and was also 2 for 3 with a stolen base in the second game against the Mountain Hawks. She was 3 for 6 and scored both Delaware runs in the 3-2, 12-inning loss to George Mason on Sunday, and went 3 for 4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a two-run home run in the 6-1 victory over the Patriots later that day.
Borchers, who has started at second base and led off all 26 games for the Blue Hens this season, currently leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a .389 batting average. She leads the league with three triples, ranks second with 19 runs scored, is third with 35 hits, and ranks fourth with 21 runs batted in.
Delaware, which is currently 18-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play, hosts Delaware State in a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
