ATLANTA, GA -- University of Delaware sophomore second baseman Allison Borchers (Fallston, MD/Fallston - at right) was named to the All- Colonial Athletic Association Softball First Team at the conference awards banquet Wednesday night.
Borchers, a second team selection last year when she was named the conference Rookie of the Year, led the Blue Hens this season with a . 392 batting average, 73 hits, 36 runs scored, seven triples and 105 total bases. She has already set the school single-season records for hits and total bases this year, and has tied the season-season runs mark.
Additionally, her current batting average would be tied for the seventh highest in a single season at Delaware.
Borchers, who also set a school record by hitting in 15 straight games from April 5 through April 26, has a team-high 21 multi-hit games and is tied for the team lead with nine multi-RBI games. She currently leads the CAA in triples and total bases, and ranks among the top five in runs, hits, RBI and batting average.
Borchers has hit safely in 43 of 55 games this season, including a 4 for 4 performance against UMBC on March 8. She posted three hits in seven games this year, and drove home five runs versus Norfolk State on March 12.
Despite playing just two seasons at Delaware, Borchers already ranks seventh in school history with 64 RBI, is tied for 11th with 123 hits, and is 13th with 63 runs scored. She is also tied for sixth with six home runs, ranks ninth with nine triples and is 10th with 169 total bases.
Delaware, which is 33-22 overall and 10-10 in the conference this season, will be the fourth seed in this week’s CAA Tournament at regular season champion Georgia State. The Blue Hens will face the Panthers in the first round of the double elimination tournament Thursday at 12 noon.
