Delaware 7, La Salle 2 March 13, 2004 Plant, Gilkins with Four Hits Apiece as Hens Roll Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore HILADELPHIA -- Jenny Gilkins and Michelle Plant each had four hits in the doubleheader and Delaware ran its winning streak to six straight games as the Fightin' Blue Hens swept a softball twinbill at La Salle, 6-2 and 7-2, Saturday afternoon. Plant, a freshman from Woodbridge, VA, had two hits in each game, including a two-run double in the opener. Gilkins collected three of her four hits in the opener and had two runs scored and an RBI single in Delaware's five-run sixth inning in the nightcap. In the opener, Plant's two-run double gave Delaware a 2-1 lead in the second inning after the Explorers (3-9) pushed across a first-inning run. La Salle tied the game in the fourth, but Delaware responded with three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to make a winner out of pitcher Jenn Joseph (5-1). Delaware took advantage of three La Salle errors in the fifth inning and got an RBI double by senior Laura Streets in the sixth. La Salle could not take advantage of nine walks issued by Joseph as the Explorers left 17 runners on base in the opener. In the nightcap, Delaware pushed a run across in the first inning on a passed ball and took a 2-0 lead in the fifth when Streets drove in a run, reaching on an error. However, the Blue Hens blew the game open with five runs in the sixth inning, capped off by a two-run double by Streets. Carolyn Sloat earned the win in the nightcap. She allowed a pair of runs in the seventh inning, but allowed just two hits and struck out seven in raising her record to 7-4 on the season. Delaware (12-6), which won six in a row in mid-April last season but hasn't had a winning streak longer than that since the middle of the 2000 season, will host Penn on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Univ. of Delaware vs La Salle University (Mar 13, 2004)
