Delaware won the opener, 2-1,while James Madison won the second game, 4-3. The two teams will play a single game Saturday at 12 noon. Streets ripped an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI double in the third, her 10th double of the season, to give Delaware a 2-0 lead. Winning pitcher Carolynn Sloat held off the Dukes (15-16) from there. James Madison had a hit in every inning against Sloat, but could only get on the scoreboard with a single-run in the sixth. Sloat, a freshman from Ballston Lake, NY, scattered nine hits and walked just one in striking out five and running her record to 9-6 this season. Her nine wins lead the CAA this season. In the nightcap, the Dukes scored in each of the first three innings, chasing Delaware starter Jenn Joseph (7-4). After James Madison took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings, Delaware took a 3-2 lead when Liz Winslow, a senior from Scarborough, ME, ripped a two-run double to right and later scored on a ground out. The double extended Winslow's hitting streak to six straight games. However, the Dukes regained the lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Megan Smith and an RBI single by Natalie Burd. Sloat relieved Joseph from there and shut down the Dukes, holding them to just two hits over the final four innings. However, Delaware could not get the equalizer off of winning pitcher Liz George (5-7). Delaware had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh. However, George coaxed Sloat into a ground out before Katie George made a lunging catch on a line-drive up the middle off the bat of Michelle Plant to end the game. AGATE: Game 1 Box score (NCAA)
