Basilio smacked a two-run triple in Game

NEWARK, DE --
Junior Laura Streets homered twice in the
opener and senior Melissa Basilio drove in three runs with a
double and a triple in the nightcap to lead Delaware to a
softball doubleheader sweep of La Salle, 5-3 and 5-1, at
Delaware Field on Saturday afternoon.
Streets, a native of Newark, DE, smacked
two home runs to drive in four runs to pace the Blue Hens in
the first game of the twinbill. She hit a three-run shot to
help Delaware to a 4-0 first inning lead. She later added a
solo shot in the fifth to give the Blue Hens a 5-3 lead.
Streets now has four home runs in her last three games. She
is 9-for-12 in four games this week.
Streets explosion was enough for pitchers
Jenn Joseph and Becky Rogers. Joseph pitched the first 4-2/3
innings to earn the win before giving way to Rogers in the
fifth. Rogers allowed just one hit over the final 2-1/3
innings to earn her first save of the season.
In the nightcap, Basilio tripled in the
first to plate Delaware's first two runs. The Pickering,
Ontario native followed up with an RBI double in the fifth
to finish a perfect 3-for-3 game.
While Basilio was the star at the plate,
freshman Lindsay Jones continued her strong pitching, as
well. Jones took a shutout bid into the sixth inning and
finished with five strikeouts, while allowing five hits and
just one run. She has now allowed one walk and struckout 23
batters in 28-2/3 innings of work this season.
Delaware (4-6) will host Dartmouth in a
non-conference doubleheader Sunday at 12 noon.
