Blue Hens fall 10-2 at James Madison, drop two of three in weekend series

 

HARRISONBURG, VA -- James Madison University scored six runs in the third inning to break open a 1-0 game and go on to a 10-2 win over the University of Delaware softball team in Colonial Athletic Association action today at the JMU Softball Complex in Harrisonburg, VA. The Dukes took two of the three games over the weekend series with the Hens.

Delaware scored an unearned run in the third inning to lead 1-0 but James Madison (15-19, 2-1 CAA) answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 6-1. Leah Evert and Kara Schwind each drove in two runs with extra base hits in the inning for the Dukes.

In the fourth, Kinsey Lowrey singled in Laurie Erickson for the Blue Hens second run of the game to cut their deficit to 6-2, but James Madison would score four more in the fifth inning and go on to the commanding 10-2 victory.

Sarai Lavandero and Lowrey each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Delaware while Liz Winslow and Erickson each had one hit.

Lauren Curtis went 3-for-3 and scored two runs while Ashlea Schenk and Evert each had two hits for the Dukes.

Delaware (9-12-1, 1-2 CAA) will host LaSalle University in a non-league doubleheader on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
