East Carolina 7, Delaware 0 Pirate Classic at East Carolina Day Two • February 22, 2003 GREENVILLE, NC -- The University of Delaware softball team lost two games on Saturday at the East Carolina Invitational. The Blue Hens lost to St. John's, 2-1, and tournament host East Carolina, 7-0. In the opener, Delaware's Sarai Lavandero tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when she scored on Jenny Gilkins suicide squeeze bunt. Lavendero had doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a ground out. Lavendero finished the game with two of Delaware's five hits. However, the Red Storm, responded in the top of the sixth. Jo Sherlock tripled and scored on an RBI single by Jessica Sheppard. Freshman Lindsay Jones took the loss in her first collegiate start. She struck out four and scattered six hits in a complete game effort. In the second game, Brittany Boyd fired a two-hitter as the host Pirates shutout the Blue Hens. Delaware's Becky Rogers allowed seven runs in 2-1/3 innings to take the loss. Sophomore Jenn Joseph came on a fired three shutout innings of relief after pitching out of the third inning jam.
