Delaware 1, Drexel 0 April 19, 2003 Joseph Pitches Blue Hens to Sixth Straight Win   Jenn Joseph hurled a five-hitter for her fourth shutout of the season NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Jenn Joseph hurled a five-hit shutout and struck out eight batters to lead the University of Delaware softball team to a 1-0 victory over Drexel Saturday afternoon at Delaware Field and earn a series sweep in their Colonial Athletic Association three-game weekend set. The Blue Hens, who swept Drexel Friday with wins of 7-1 and 1-0, extended their win streak to six games to improve to 15-14-1 overall and 5-4 in CAA play. Drexel, which has now lost six straight and 14 of its last 15, fell to 9-23, 1-8 CAA. Delaware has now posted five shutouts in the last six games and have allowed just one run in the last 42 innings of play. Joseph, a native of Wilmington, DE (Brandywine HS), scattered five hits, struck out eight, and walked just two to post her fourth shutout of the season and lower her team-leading earned run average to 1.51. She allowed just one run and struck out a career-high 10 in Friday's 7-1 win over Drexel. She has now won four straight outings to improve to 9-5 on the season. Drexel starter Liz Fuller (6-12) was the hard-luck loser as she allowed only a fifth inning single up the middle by Liz Winslow with one out and did not allow an earned run. The Dragons stranded eight runners on the day. Delaware scored its only run in the fourth inning without a base hit. Kelley Pastic earned a one-out walk and advanced to second on a throwing error by Drexel catcher Bridget Flynn. She then came around to score when Drexel second baseman Amelia McCracken bobbled a grounder by Laura Streets and her throw to first was late. Drexel first baseman Jonnae McClain then fired a throw home that got past Flynn, allowing Pastic to score easily. Joseph got out of a jam in the sixth inning after retiring the first two batters. McClain singled to left field and pinch-runner Eva Noelsch advanced to third on two passed balls. The inning ended when Joseph got Fuller to fly out to centerfield. Drexel advanced a runner to second base in the seventh inning with two outs, but Joseph got Lauren Greenburg to ground out to second to end the game.
