Game 2 PPD (Rain)
April 30, 2002
PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Jenny Card smacked a
two-run home run to pace Rutgers to a 4-0 six-inning,
rain-shortened win over Delaware in non-conference softball
action Tuesday afternoon.
The second game of the doubleheader was
postponed due to rain.
Card homered with one out in the fifth to
extend the Rutgers lead to 3-0. The Scarlet Knights had
taken a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Stephanie
Johannsen's RBI single.
Rutgers (19-24) tacked on an insurance
run before rain halted play with two outs in the bottom of
the sixth inning.
Laura Streets and Melissa Basilio each
went 1-for-2 in the loss for Delaware (16-22).
In the game, University of Delaware
outfielder Mandy Welch played in her 187th career game to
set a new record. Welch has not missed a start in her four
seasons to set records for games played, games started,
consecutive games played and consecutive games started. She
went 0-for-3 in the loss.
Delaware will host UMBC on Wednesday in a
non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
