Delaware 5, Rider 1 9 inn Delaware 3, Rider 2 April 17, 2002 Welch ties record as Hens take two from Rider   Mandy Welch's 182 career hits puts her in a tie for No. 1 all-time at Delaware LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- It took nine innings in game one and a late inning rally in game two for the University of Delaware's softball team to sweep Rider, 5-1 and 3-2, Wednesday afternoon in New Jersey. Senior Mandy Welch (McDonough/LaPlata, MD) recorded two hits on the day to tie Lauren Mark's UD career-hit mark of 182. Despite stranding 16 runners in game one, Delaware got a strong pitching performance from Jenn Joseph, who allowed only four hits and one Bronc run in nine innings. After failing to plate the deciding run off Rider pitcher Devin Karcesky in the first eight innings, the Blue Hens looked as if they may come up short again when Randi Isaacs was thrown out at home in the ninth, leaving the bases loaded and two outs. But Joseph singled to the Rider shortstop to score the first UD run of the inning and a wild pitch brought in the second. Sarai Lavandero's two-run double provided Joseph with more then enough support as the Broncs were retired quietly in their portion of the ninth to give Delaware the 5-1 victory. Delaware also waited till its last out in game two. With Rider leading, 2-1, in the top of the seventh, Welch scored when the Bronc left fielder misplayed an Isaacs' single to tie the contest. Isaacs then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch after advancing to third on Liz Winslow's single. Becky Rogers snuffed out a final inning Rider rally to bring home the win for the Blue Hens, 3-2.
