Amanda Cariello fired a two-hitter in the nightcap
after driving in the tying run in the nightcap with
a perfect suicide squeeze bunt.

NEWARK, DE -- Mandy Welch's sacrifice fly
in the bottom of the seventh capped a Blue Hen rally in the
opener and Amanda Cariello fired a two-hit shutout in the
nightcap as Delaware swept a twinbill from Mt. St. Mary's,
6-5 and 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Delaware
Field.
Welch's line drive to left scored Brooke
May with the winning run. The inning began with Melissa
Basilio's fly ball to left was misplayed into a double. May
followed with a bunt single, which moved Basilio to thrd.
Cariello came up as a pinch-hitter and dropped a perfect
suicide squeeze bunt to score Basilio and tie the game.
Sarai Lavandero followed with a sac bunt, which she reached
safely on when the first baseman missed the bag, to load the
bases. Welch then lined to left, scoring May.
In the nightcap, Delaware (4-10) used a
pair of runs in the third and the economical pitching of
Cariello to complete the sweep. Cariello threw just 85
pitches and walked two in firing a two-hitter.
The third inning runs came when Laura
Streets led of the innning with a double over the left
fielder's head. After Basilio grounded out, May followed
with a single up the middle, moving Streets to third. Welch
then followed with a single up the middle to plate Streets
and move May to second. Kelley Pastic loaded the bases with
her single to center. Cariello then helped her own cause
with an RBI fielder's choice.
Eileen Williams was 4-for-6 in the
doubleheader for Mount Saint Mary's (1-6). Welch finished
the doubleheader 2-for-3 with three RBI. The two hits give
her 166 for her career, moving her into fourth all-time at
Delaware.
