Delaware 5, James Madison 4 April 7, 2002 Winslow Delivers for Blue Hens   Liz Winslow's pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh won it for Delaware. NEWARK, DE -- After seeing a four-run lead disappear in the top of the seventh, sophomore Liz Winslow delivered the game-winning run with a pinch-hit single to center to give University of Delaware a 5-4 win over James Madison in CAA softball action Sunday afternoon. Winslow, a sophomore from Scarborough, ME, singled to center, scoring Jenny Gilkins with the game-winner. Gilkins was pinch running for sophomore Laurie Erickson, who had led off the inning with a double. Delaware (11-13, 2-1) appeared to be cruising to victory, entering the top of the seventh with a 4-0 lead. James Madison (16-11, 1-2 CAA) loaded the bases with one out, however, on a pair of singles and an error. Amanda Cariello got the second out of the inning when she fielded a wicked shot up the middle and got the force out at home. However, the Dukes cut the lead in half when Jesse Gump smacked a two-run single to left. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Leah Evert singled to left. The ball skipped by a Delaware outfielder, allowing both runners to score and tie the game, 4-4. Cariello coaxed Kara Schwind into a ground ball to avoid further damage. In the bottom of the seventh, Erickson led off with a double to straight-away center off starting pitcher Leah Conley (7-6). Nikki Dunn relieved Conley and promptly retired Mandy Welch on strikes. However, Winslow, pinch hitting for Kelley Pastic, ripped a single to center, scoring the pinch-runner Gilkins. Cariello, a senior from Bear, DE, did not allow an earned run and walked just one in moving to 8-5 on the season. The graduate of St. Mark's HS has allowed just two earned runs in her last 28 innings of work, winning each of those four outings.
