Delaware 3, George Mason 1 Game 1 George Mason 6, Delaware 4 Game 2  Blue Hens Split Conference doubleheader with Patriots Amanda Cariello had a superb day on the mound and at the plate NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware jumped out to an early lead in the first game and held on for a 3-1 victory, while George Mason University survived a late Blue Hen rally to take the second game 6-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Delaware Field Saturday afternoon. Senior Amanda Cariello (Bear, DE/St. Mark's) went the distance for Delaware in game one, limiting the Patriot lineup to just one run on six hits striking out three as she picked up her 10th victory of the season. Cariello also led the Blue Hens at the plate batting 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored, while Melissa Basilio (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) and Randi Isaacs (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) each contributed an RBI single. Jen Schultz's sixth inning double scored Linda Young with the Patriots only run of the first game. In the second game it was George Mason who jumped out to the early lead, as Kimberly Braxton and Natasha Galecki reached on back-to-back singles, and the Blue Hens followed by walking four of the next five batters allowing three runs to score. Delaware (16-21, 4-7 CAA) closed within two runs with a three-run sixth inning rally, and had one last chance in the seventh loading the bases with two-outs before Mason pitcher Jill Regan bailed herself out of the jam by getting final batter to pop up. Mandy Welch (LaPlata, MD/McDonough) finished the second game 2-for-4 with an RBI and Amanda Cariello, Melissa Basilio and Jenny Gilkins (Alma, MI/Alma) each added two hits. For George Mason (36-17, 5-4 CAA) in game two, Kimberly Braxton went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored, and Dee Dee Fox picked up a pair of hits to go with an RBI and a run scored.
