Delaware Sweeps Twinbill from Lehigh, 1-0 and 2-1 March 29, 2000 Brady's RBI Double in Bottom of 8th Gives Dugan Her UD Record Ninth Straight Win in Nightcap   NEWARK, DE -- Christine Brady's RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning drove home the winning run as Delaware completed a doubleheader sweep of Lehigh, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Field. The Blue Hens, winners of seven straight at 15 of their last 16, had taken the opener, 1-0, as Kristi O'Connell tossed the team's sixth straight shutout and raised her personal shutout streak to 25 consecutive innings. Susan Dugan set a UD record with her ninth straight win in the nightcap. She tied a UD mark as her consecutive shutout inning streak ran to 30 innings before Stephanie Digneo scored to get Lehigh on the board in the top of the fifth. After Dugan had her streak snapped, the Blue Hens tied the game in the sixth on Lauren Mark's RBI triple down the right field line. Mark would later try to score on Kristy Wilkins' suicide squeeze attempts, but was out at the plate on a great defensive block by Mountain Hawk catcher Cindy Selverian. Delaware (16-5) broke the tie in the bottom of the eight. Mandy Welch opened the inning with a single to left and moved to second on a wild pitch. Michelle Stack walked to bring up Brady, who ripped a shot over the center fielder's head to score Welch. Brady was credited with a double on the game-winning hit. In the opener, O'Connell recorded her 49th career win by scattering three hits and holding Lehigh (12-14) off of the scoreboard until Welch singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to break a scoreless tie. Delaware will host Drexel in an America East four-game series this weekend. Both Saturday's and Sunday's doubleheaders begin at 12 noon.
