NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware athletics officials have announced that the Second Annual Mary Ann Hitchens Golf Classic, set for this Monday, Sept. 17, is a sellout.

All playing spots and corporate sponsorships for the annual tournament, which will be held Monday, Sept. 17 at Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club in Newark, are sold out. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12 noon. A reception and silent auction will be held in the clubhouse at 5 p.m.

The event benefits the Mary Ann Hitchens Endowment for Women's Athletics in supporting the needs of women's basketball, cross country, track and field, lacrosse, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball programs at UD.

Head coaches for each of the 12 Blue Hen athletics teams will be hand for the tournament as well as members of the UD athletics administration. The tournament is being presented by Dr. Michael J. Axe of First State Orthopaedics.

Hitchens, who retired in 2006 after 37 years of service to intercollegiate athletic at UD, is a member of the UD Athletics Hall of Fame and the Delaware Sports Museum and Sports Hall of Fame.
