Lane Kohl Earns Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete Award

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Lane Kohl, who recently completed her junior year with the University of Delaware women's rowing team, has been named a National Scholar-Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Lane Kohl Earns Academic Honor

Kohl, a sophomore from Mohnton, PA (Governor Mifflin High School), led the Blue Hens to their third straight unofficial Colonial Athletic Association championship title this past spring. She was one of 124 NCAA Division student-athletes honored nationally.

This year marks the sixth straight year that the CRCA has sponsored a scholar-athlete award. The award is designed to recognize outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the season. Award recipients must have competed in 75 percent of the team's meets and posted a minimum 3. 5 grade point index.

Kohl, an exercise physiology major with a 3.93 grade point index, was one of 21 rowers named to the Mid-Atlantic team, which included rowers from Navy, Cornell, Massachusetts, George Washington, Rutgers, Syracuse,Pennsylvania, and Fordham. Her grade point index was the second highest of the group.

She posted an outstanding season in 2004 as a member of the Blue Hen Varsity Eights crew that placed second at the Kerr Cup/CAA Championships, eighth at the ECAC Metro Championships, was fifth in its heat at the Knecht Cup, placed first in a dual meet at Barry, and second in a dual meet at Bucknell. She also was a member of the Second Varsity Eights crew that won its dual meet vs. LaSalle and Lehigh in the season opener.

In addition to Kohl, also honored on the Mid-Atlantic academic team were:

Shaunnah Wark, Kathleen Mortenson, Kacie Inman, and Margaret Sweeny of Navy, Victoria Liang, Amelia Siani, and Rachel Gage of Cornell, Katie O'Brien and Catherine Gariepy of Massachusetts, Regina Cambilargiu and Emily Garofalo of George Washington, Lauren Kolb, Amy Bircsak, Karen Cornell, Nancy Erickson, and Melissa Thomas of Rutgers, Anna Goodale and Catherine Henny of Syracuse, Susan Francia of Pennsylvania, and Megan Rogers of Fordham.
