Sixty-Six Delaware Student-Athletes Earn CAA Commissioner's Academic Award

RICHMOND, VA -- A total of 66 University of Delaware student-athletes have earned Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Awards for their work in the classroom during the most recent fall semester.

Student-athletes from each of the 10 CAA schools who compete in the sports of volleyball, field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's cross country, and women's cross country and post a 3.2 or better grade point index for the fall semester earned the award. Delaware student-athletes in all 23 Blue Hen intercollegiate athletic teams posted a cumulative 2.864 gpa during the fall.

The sport by sport breakdown of Blue Hen student-athletes earning the award consisted of 18 women's cross country competitors, 17 women's soccer players, 13 field hockey players, seven in volleyball, six in men's soccer, and five in men's cross country.

Women's cross country had the highest team cumulative gpa of all Delaware athletics teams with a 3.321 gpa for the fall semester while women's soccer was second with a cumulative average of 3.28. Volleyball (3.125) and field hockey (3.061) also had team averages over 3.0.

More than half of the 66 athletes (36) earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better for the fall with men's soccer player Matt Haney, men's cross country runner Kevin DuPrey, women's soccer players Ginette Buffone and Andrea Lunn, and women's cross country runners Erin Gemmill, Allison Behrle, and Erin Kenaley earning perfect 4.0 marks.

Delaware student-athletes earning CAA Commissioner's Academic Awards were:

Men's Cross Country: Brad Dodson, Kevin DuPrey, Daniel Frey, John Morgan, and Patrick Wilcox.

Women's Cross Country: Lindsay Barnes, Allison Behrle, Erin Gemmill, Renee Gresh, Laura Heenan, Erin Kenaley, Kate Klim, Kristine Marsh, Mary Martini, Colleen Reid, Lisa Salvatore, Lauren Shaub, Lauren Stephenson, Melissa Taylor, Nicole Voight, Danielle Ward, Leslie Wason, and Meghan Weaver.

Field Hockey: Megan Allen, Jessi Balmer, Carly Campana, Katie Evans, Leah Geib, Megan Henry, Kaili Kao, Erica LaBar, Lindsey Piester, Jillian Stevens, Stephanie Swain, Danielle Stevens, and Dusti Vanderwende.

Men's Soccer: Justin Arpan, Morgan Funsten, Hayes Glanden, Matt Haney, Kyle Haynes, and Anthony Molinaro.

Women's Soccer: Caryn Blood, Trisha Breault, Ginette Buffone, Mary Beth Creed, Elizabeth Garufi, Jennifer Krepps, Melissa Kunisky, Shelby Lawrence, Andrea Lunn, Christina Martinik, Bonnie Mills, Megan Milstone, Lindsay Novotny, Maria Pollaro, Lindsey Shover, Francesca Termini, and Shannon White.

Volleyball: Colleen Carey, Jocelyn Greenwald, Erin Kardine, Valerie Murphy, Dana Olmstead, Liz Ommundsen, and Nicole Stuka.
