EWING, NJ -- The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring seasons over the weekend at The College of New Jersey, as the Blue Hen women swept all nine matches on Sunday and the men won seven of nine matches on Saturday in Ewing, NJ.

Team scores were not kept in either match.

The women (2-0, 0-0 CAA) were led by senior Susan Pollack, who eased to a 7-5, 6-3 win over TCNJ's Jackie Shtemberg at first singles and teamed with freshman Courtney Fenimore for an 8-3 victory over Shtemberg and Christina Contrafatto at first doubles. Fenimore bested the Lions' Amanda Berg without giving up a game in second singles action, while sophomore Elena Berry fought hard for a 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 triumph over Contrafatto at No. 3.

Junior Amanda Campbell, senior Alexa Dragonette, and freshman Ivana Petrich recorded straight-set wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively, while Campbell and Dragonette kept the Hens perfect with an 8-5 victory at second doubles. Berry and Petrich closed out the match without much trouble, as they posted an 8-0 win at third doubles.

Dragonette's doubles win moves her into a tie with UD head coach Laura Travis for fifth-most in school history (50).

Sophomore Austin Longacre (at right) paced the Delaware men, running away from TCNJ's Michael Klimchak in a 10-point tiebreaker for a 6-1, 3-6, 10-1 first-singles win. Longacre improved to 15-4 in singles action on the year.

Junior Nolan Greenberg picked up a win at second singles, toppling Jeremy Eckardt 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while freshman Chris Hincker followed suit with a straight-sets victory over the Lions' Eric Ferriere at No. 4.

Sophomore Camilo Perez battled past TCNJ's Jon Yu in a first-set tiebreaker before easing through the second set for a win at fifth singles. Meanwhile, senior Jonathan Schwartz opened his spring campaign in style, giving up just two games on the way to a W.

At third singles, sophomore Sam Barrer suffered a 6-4, 6-3 defeat at the hands of TCNJ's Roger Mosteller, who paired up with Klimchak in an 8-3 win over Longacre and Greenberg at first singles.

Schwartz and sophomore Andrew Blumberg outlasted their TCNJ opponents in a thrilling 9-8 (9-7) second-doubles decision, while Barrer teamed up with Perez in a shutout win at No. 3.

The Hens return to the court on Jan. 23, when they host Delaware State and Washington College in an exhibition at Elkton Indoor Courts.
