PRINCETON, NJ -- Sophomore Austin Longacre and junior Nolan Greenberg (right) lost their round of 16 doubles match Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships, falling to No. 16 Alex Svetlakov and Artem Vlasenko of St. John's, 8-6.
The Hens' top tandem shocked top-seeded George Carpeni and Alex Krueger-Wyman of Princeton in Saturday's second round to reach the round of 16. They were the first Blue Hen duo to reach the ITA Regional round of 16 since John Tully and Robert Wirth did it in 2004.
Longacre and Greenberg finished the fall season at 7-2.
The regional - Delaware's last event of the fall - is a springboard to the national stage, as the two singles finalists and the winning doubles team will qualify for next month’s ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The event continues through Monday night, but no UD players remain in contention.
