FAIRFAX, VA -- The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams opened Colonial Athletic Association play with runaway wins over George Mason on Tuesday afternoon, posting 6-1 and 7-0 victories, respectively.

The men's team improved to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in Colonial action with its fourth straight victory, while the women (5-0, 1-0 CAA) notched their fifth win in a row.

Sophomore Austin Longacre (at right) got the Blue Hen men started with a 6-1, 6-2 rout of the Patriots' Brian Fitzgerald at first singles, improving to 18-7 on the season and moving closer to Jon Zolin's long-standing single-season school record of 21 wins. Junior Nolan Greenberg fell to Anastas Budagov 6-4, 6-4 at second singles, but freshman No. 3 Chris Hincker rolled past GMU's Dan Schneider 6-3, 6-0 and sophomore No. 4 Camilo Perez edged Harwood Hoskins by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) tally.

At 15-5 on the year, Hincker leads the Blue Hens in winning percentage and needs just four more victories to break the UD record for wins by a freshman.

Senior Jonathan Schwartz was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Jordan Lipstock in fifth-singles play, while freshman Nick Piacente defeated Mason's Martin Brown 6-2, 6-3 for his first career win. At first doubles, Longacre and Greenberg outclassed the Patriot pair of Fitzgerald and Schneider by an 8-3 score. Schwartz teamed up with sophomore Andrew Blumberg for an 8-2 second-doubles win, while Hincker and Perez closed out the day with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.

The women were led by senior No. 1 Susan Pollack, who knocked off the Pats' Lindsay Gray 6-2, 6-3 for her fourth consecutive win and the 61st of her decorated career. Freshman Courtney Fenimore topped Stacey Berlinger 6-3, 6-1 at second singles, and sophomore Elena Berry maintained the momentum with a 6-0, 6-0 blowout of Sarah Dieffenbach at the third spot.

Junior Amanda Campbell picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Julia Moscato in fourth-singles play, and senior Alexa Dragonette blew by Mason's Aryn Christman in a 6-3, 6-1 straight-setter at fifth singles. Freshman No. 6 Ivana Petrich added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Meredith Cutchin to move the Hens to 30-0 in dual-match singles play this season.

Pollack and Fenimore dominated Gray and Berlinger 8-2 at first doubles to improve to 13-4 this season, while Campbell and Dragonette notched an 8-4 win at the second slot and Berry and Petrich scored an 8-0 shutout at No. 3.

The men's squad improved to 9-0 all-time versus George Mason, while the women stayed perfect at 7-0 against the Patriots. The Hen women are off to their best start since 2004-05, when they began the year at 7-0.

Coach Laura Travis's charges return to the court on Friday, when they take on Drexel in Altamonte Spring, FL.
