NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Sophomore Austin Longacre, who has tied a school record with 21 singles wins this season, was rewarded Thursday with a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team, while Longacre and junior Nolan Greenberg were named third-team All-CAA in doubles.
With a 6-0, 6-1 runaway win over UMBC's Chris Meyer last Wednesday, Longacre improved to 21-10 on the year and tied Jon Zolin's 34-year-old school record for singles wins in a season. He also set a new standard for singles matches played in a year with 31, eclipsing John Tully's 30. With 31 career singles wins to his credit, the Landenberg, PA native is on pace to become Delaware's all-time winningest player.
Longacre and Greenberg have teamed up to go 15-8 this year, all at the first doubles slot, and were named CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 26. Greenberg (at right), a native of Nicolet, WI, has collected 38 career doubles wins, tied for 11th-most in school history.
Longacre and Greenberg are the first Blue Hens to take home CAA post-season honors since Tully was named second-team all-conference in 2004-05.
Georgia State standout Nejc Podkrajsek was selected CAA Player of the Year, while Jared Robinson of James Madison and Martin Schulhauser of VCU were honored as the league's top rookies.
Five players from VCU were chosen to the all-conference squad, including three on the first team.
