NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men’s tennnis team won five of six singles matches as the Hens posted a 5-2 victory over Villanova Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Field House tennis courts.
Nolan Greenberg (right) defeated Dimitri Chimerakis 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Hens, who were playing in their first duel meet of the season. Austin Longacre posted a thrilling 6-4, 7-6 (14-12) win over Scott Fahrendorf at No. 2.
Other winners for the Hens included Sam Barrer at No. 4, Jon Schwartz at No. 5, and Camilo Perez at No. 6. Barrer and Perez are both a perfect 4-0 on the year. Barrer defeated Brett Tobin 6-1, 6-0, Schwartz breezed past Alex Leeser 6-2, 6-2, and Perez upended Sumanth Chittajallu 7-6 (0), 4-6, 10-8.
Villanova, who falls to 1-1 on the year, recieved wins from Sean Daly at No. 3 singles, Chimerakis and Daly at No. 1 doubles, and Fahrendorf and Charlie Farmer at No. 2 doubles.
Delaware has won the last three meetings between the two rival schools.
The Blue Hens will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Georgetown for a 2 p.m. start time.
