SWARTHMORE, PA -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis team opened its fall season successfully by winning six of eight singles flights and two of four doubles flights at the Swarthmore Tournament this past weekend.

The tournament included five teams: host Swarthmore, Temple, Haverford, The College of New Jersey, and Delaware.

The Blue Hens were led by sophomore Matthew Liebman, who captured both the Flight B singles title and the Flight D doubles crown by pairing with freshman Camilo Perez, who won the Flight E singles title as well.

Delaware had a player in seven of the eight singles finals, six of whom won, and in three of the four doubles finals, two of whom won.

Other flight winners for the Hens included freshman Sam Barrer, who won Flight D. Junior Jason Hanschmann won Flight F, junior Zach Chafitz took the Flight G title, and sophomore Josh Levine (right) won Flight H to round out the Hens’ steller performance.

The Hens return to action this Sunday when they host Temple at the Delaware Field House at 12 noon.
