NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team defeated Towson 4-3, while the men’s tennis team fell to UNC Wilmington 4-0 before edging Hofstra 4-2 to complete an action packed day of Colonial Athletic Association tennis action at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts.
The Delaware women improved to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in CAA play, while the Tigers, which had won two straight matches, fall to 9-8 and 3-3 in conference play.
Picking up singles victories for Delaware were Elena Berry, Liz Perlow, and Alexa Dragonette. Berry downed Eva Otanke 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Perlow topped Jessica Woolfolk 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Alexa Dragonette posted her team-leading 18th singles victory by beating Kelly Parsons 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4.
In the doubles, Dragonette teamed up with Brittany Barsky for an 8-4 victory over Amanda Scatuorchio and Woolfolk at No. 2, while Perlow and Julie Schiller defeated Evelyn Izaguirre and Cassandra Ng 8-3 at No. 3 to earn the doubles point for the Hens.
The Delaware men split their two matches to bring their record to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Blue Hens fell to UNC Wilmington 4-0 as the Seahawks, who have won seven of their last eight matches after beating James Madison in their afternoon match, improved to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. UNCW won the doubles point against the Hens and picked up three straight-set singles victories for a 4-0 shutout. UNCW surrendered just eight games in sweeping the trio of singles matches.
Against Hofstra, Delaware picked up singles wins from Matt Liebman, Jon Schwartz, and Camilo Perez (at right) . Liebman downed Taj Alexander 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, while Schwartz came from behind to upend Matt Wacks 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 at No. 5. Camilo Perez had little trouble with Ali Hill as he won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Blue Hens swept the doubles as Austin Longacre and Andrew Blumberg defeated Luka Djordjevic and Andy Cha 6-5 (4) at No. 1, Jason Hanschmann and Nolan Greenberg topped Nenad Radakovic and Wacks 8-1, and Barrer and Perez breezed by Hill and Alexander 8-0.
Both the men and women will be back in action tomorrow as the men host James Madison at 9:30 and the women will take on Hofstra at 12 noon.
