University of Delaware Men’s Tennis Falls to CAA Foe UNC Wilmington 7-0

TOWSON, MD -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis squad suffered its fourth straight loss Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens dropped a 7-0 decision to Colonial Athletic Association foe UNC Wilmington in a match played at Towson University.

The Seahawks, who improved to 11-7 overall and 2-1 in the league, won all three doubles matches and all six singles matchups, including four in straight sets. The Blue Hens fell to 4-5 on the season, including an 0-2 mark versus CAA opponents.

Cal Piacentini needed three sets to defeat Jesse Carl 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-5 at No. 1 singles, while Gustavo Bertei posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nolan Greenberg at No. 2 and Dennis Myers recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Adam Liebman at No. 3. Grant Holland notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over Josh Ditman at No. 4, Henrique Meloni edged Jonathan Schwartz 7-6 (5), 6-7 (6), 13-11 at No. 5, and Rahul Rajkhewa defeated Josh Levine 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6.

Myers and Holland defeated Carl and Greenberg, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles for the Seahawks, while Piacentini and Christopher Yee topped Jason Hanschmann and Philip Wayne, 8-6, at No. 2. Brian Ford and Meloni completed the sweep by posting an 8-0 win over Schwartz and Levine at No. 3.

The Blue Hens travel to UMBC Wednesday for a 2 p.m. match with the Retrievers.
